Mia saw Amelie's portrait and and then wanted to see Amelie's writings. Since Amelie only reigned for twelve days all she had was her diary. (Mia also wanted her portrait.) Within her diary Mia found that Amelie had written a document. There were two copies. One was burned by her uncle and other was "held close to her heart".
Later, while Mia was re-arranging her room the portrait fell, and the frame came off. She discovered the document between the painting and the backing, near where Amelie's heart would have been. This document helped bring democracy to Genovia.
